Road Trip to Maine + Arliss = 1 Car Sick Pug

For Arliss, a road trip is any drive that takes longer than 10 minutes. Arliss doesn't make a peep; he just sits and looks miserable. If it's just a quick ride to the park he sits on the front seat and faces me. He'll lean up against the seat with the left side of his body and stare at me until we arrive at our destination; he never looks straight ahead for some reason. On longer trips where there is highway involved, we like to put him in his crate in the back seat, but even then, he leans the left side of his body into the back of the crate and stares to the left with this woozy sick look in his eyes. This weekend in an effort to spare Arliss from motion sickness, we left the crate at home and let him sit in the back seat. Our drive to Maine takes two hours from door to door, we were hoping he would stretch out on the seat and sleep for two hours. That didn't work. He kept looking at us with his sad little face. If I could read his mind, I am certain he was thinking "make this stop, please make this stop." As we were packing the car to drive home today, Joe had an idea. He thought if I sat in the back seat with Arliss, he might relax and fall asleep on my lap and avoid being car sick altogether. It sounded like a good plan so I got into the back seat with Arliss and we headed home. Let's just say that both Arliss and I were car sick for 2 hours.

Weird, Olive loves to go for car rides and is super excited for the first 15 mins but after that shes outlike a light. I've never known a pug that didn't like the car. Poor guy:(

Arliss looks like a seal in the first pic, haha

He does look like a seal. I feel so bad for him in the car. It's a total drag. I mean what dog doesn't LOVE to drive in the car?
Another peculiar Arliss trait.

The third picture is so sad! You can totally see the fear in his eyes...awwwww. I just wanna hug him! I get REALLY carsick when I sit in the back, but only up north. I think it's the curvy roads that you have. In Florida everything's straight so I'm ok.

Oh, poor Arliss! Barkley got carsick as a puppy, but he outgrew it. I know ginger is supposed to work for people--can pugs eat ginger?!
